Tom Baker. Mr Black.

special guest

Table one special guest's story ...

The story of Mr Black started in 2012 with a chance meeting between Philip Moore, one of Australia’s most accomplished distillers, and Tom Baker, coffee-nerd and designer;

“Holy f**k, this is delicious … every bar in the world needs a bottle of this”

Tom then said to Phil, “If we can sell 200 bottles, we’ll start a business. We’ll incorporate, we’ll do everything because if we can’t sell 200 then it’s probably not a good idea.”  In 2013, 240 iterations later, they had the liqueur that would win a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London that same year.

After a successful Pozible crowdfunding campaign Mr Black Roasters & Distillers was founded. They still make every bottle by hand at their coffee roastery and distillery, just north of Sydney.

“The philosophy of Mr. Black from the start is just do good stuff and hope we attract the right people.”

Tom designed the original bottle for Mr Black (now its a design from the stateside design duo Young Jerks) and Mr Black is sold in over 1,000 bars, restaurants and liquor shops across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the U.K. New York City, Chicago and LA.
